Mini Knitted Woodland – Sachiyo Ishii
It’s easy to knit this charming, fun mini woodland, with animals from badgers to bears and stags to squirrels. There’s a knitted forest floor mat to put all the creatures on, trees and tree stumps to set the scene, and even a gnome with a toadstool house.
The 27 animals have clear, simple knitting patterns with step by step photography of simple sewing, stuffing and embroidery techniques making them ideal for knitters of all skill levels.
Sachiyo Ishii says “You could make these animals to accompany bedtime stories for children or they could be made for charities and fundraising. There is no need to make the entire set. One or two animals can sit on your desk or perch by the window, or you could use one of them to create a little dangling charm to hang on your bag. It was such a pleasure to create this book and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Happy knitting!”
Sachiyo suggests using uncarded washed wool, cotton wool or polyfibre stuffing to fill your tiny creations. Knitted on size 12 (US 2) knitting needles all of the animals have been knitted in double knitting, or DK (8 ply) yarn. These delightful designs are a great stash buster.
The book uses lots of pictures to guide you through the various aspects of knitted toy making including how to make a tail, leaves and even knitted eyes.
In addition to the forest floor mat, there is a wealth of woodland animals to knit including a brown bear and cubs, a moose, a mole, ducks, turtles, wolves, hedgehogs, hares and many more.
These mini characters range in size but are around 5cm tall.
